Chilean Citizen Coming Back to Chile
Chilean citizens coming back to Chile, won't have to pay duties or taxes for the following items:
Household goods that have been out of the country for 6 months to one year, with a FOB value up to USD $500.
Household goods and / or work tools belonging to Chilean citizens that have been out of Chile for one to five years, with a FOB value up to USD $3000.
Household goods and / or work tools belonging to Chilean citizens that have been out of Chile for more than five years, with a FOB value up to USD $5000.
Notes:
The FOB value for this purpose is the regular price of the used goods in the country of origin, including discounts for years of use.
This benefit is applicable to the following goods:
Used household goods and personal effects.
Coming from the country of residence
Acquired prior to arrival to Chile
Not for commercial use
Meant for family use, that includes spouse and children.
These goods should be brought into Chile at the same time as their owner, or 120 days prior / after his arrival.
One same person cannot use this benefit again, for 3 years.

For working tools they will have to pay a customs tax of 6% over customs value, excluding VAT.

The FOB value for this purpose is the regular price of the used goods in the country of origin, including discounts for years of use.
This benefit is applicable to the following goods:
Used household goods and personal effects
Coming from the country of residence
Acquired prior to arrival to Chile
Not for commercial use
Meant for family use, that includes spouse and children.
These goods should be brought into Chile at the same time as their owner, or 120 days prior / after his arrival.
One same person cannot use this benefit again, for 3 years.
Other goods:
Other goods will have to pay taxes for 6% and VAT for 19%.

Car Importation
Chilean citizens who have been out of the country for a year or more, can import one car, whether used or new, paying certain duties and taxes. The time out of Chile should be without interruptions, and should be proven with a Travel Certificate issued by International Police in Chile. In specially qualified cases, the time out of Chile can have some interruptions:
- maximum time for interruption: 30 days per year spent abroad, for Chilean citizens that have been abroad from 1 to 5 years; or
- maximum time for interruption: 60 days per year spent abroad, for Chilean citizens that have been abroad for more than 5 years.
Vehicles that can be imported, all models not older than 1994 models, and complying with emission control regulations:
Family cars, station wagons, vans, jeeps, and similar.
Trailer houses.
Pick up trucks, regular trucks..
Note:
The importation of used motorcycles is forbidden.

WEAPONS IMPORTATION TO CHILE
The importation of the following weapons is forbidden :
- Long weapons whose barrels have been cut.
- Short weapons of any caliber that function completely automatically.
- Fantasy-like weapons, meaning those that appear to be harmless.
- Machine-guns, sub-machine guns, and similar, or any other automatic or semi-automatic weapons with high destructive power or effectiveness, whether because of its power, of the caliber of its projectiles, or because of its aiming devices.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IMPORTATION OF WEAPONS INTO CHILE
a. UNREGISTERED WEAPONS IMPORTER (CASUAL):
1. REQUEST OF AUTHORIZATION FOR IMPORTATION
Anyone who wants to import weapons or/and ammunition, for private use, should request authorization from the Dirección General de Movilización Nacional, enclosing the following documents:
Application Form (obtained from the DGMN) .
Pro-forma Invoice.
Records certificate.
Catalog referring to the specific weapon model.
Also, pay the current import fee.

2. DOCUMENTS FOR AUTHORIZATION FOR IMPORTATION
Once the first request has been authorized, importation should be requested to the Dirección General de Movilización Nacional, enclosing the following documents:
Application Form (obtained from the DGMN) .
Copy of the final invoice.
List of the weapons to be imported, mentioning kind or type, model, make, caliber, and serial number.
Also, pay the current import fee.
b. WEAPONS IMPORTATION AS ACCOMPANIED LUGGAGE ( WITHOUT PREVIOUS IMPORTATION)
This happens when someone arrives from abroad bringing weapons along or with his/her household goods. In this case importation should be required to the Dirección General de Movilización Nacional, enclosing the following documents:
Application Form (obtained from the DGMN).
Copy of the customs document of retention.
For Chilean citizens: copy of records certificate.
For foreign citizens: certificate of honorableness, obtained at their Embassy.
Copy of the invoice (if available)
Also, pay the current import fee.
c. TEMPORARY IMPORTATION
This is the case of a foreign hunter or sportsman, who wishes to bring weapons for hunting or for participation in some tournament.
His/her representative in Chile, should request permission for temporary importation to the DGMN, through the corresponding authority from the hunting area, or the place where the tournament will be held, indicating the following information:
Identification of the representative: full name, occupation, Rut (ID number), address and phone number.
Identification of the hunter/sportsman: full name, Rut or Passport number, estimated dates of entry and departure from Chile, address in Chile, Customs office for entry and departure. Also indicate: number of weapons (max. 2 per person) and description, including type, make, model, caliber and serial number. Importation of long/short automatic weapons or long semi-automatic weapons is not allowed. For long barrel weapons and rifled barrel, caliber can not exceed .308 or 7,62 mm. Indicate ammunition too.
